Sam Altman said it, and I'm sure many others. To "Do the obvious things well" is not so obvious. New programming languages, new frameworks, new papers. So many rabbit holes! Curiosity coupled with Fear Of Missing Out is a powerful drug. So easy to get distracted from doing the thing. What's the thing? In software development it's fixing that user-facing bug. It's making progress on that feature users are screaming to get. It's writing that regression test. You know what I'm talking about. Surprisingly, doing the obvious is a differentiator.
